What’s Included in Your Auto Insurance Policy?
Your car is an essential part of your daily routine. Whether you’re running errands, driving to work or planning a road trip with family or friends, you depend on your auto to get you where you’re going — and to do so safely. When the unexpected happens and your vehicle is damaged, you can count on Gullborg Insurance and the coverage provided by any of our high-rated Insurance companies to help get you back on track.
Auto insurance consists of six types of damage coverage:
- Bodily injury liability: Covers your legal fees, court costs and compensation due to bodily injury claims brought against you.
- Medical payments: Covers the medical expenses for injuries sustained by you, resident relatives and other people in your auto as the result of an accident. (Auto insurance coverage varies by state.)
- Property damage liability: Covers your legal liability for property damage claims brought against you.
- Collision: Coverage that pays for damage to your auto and its equipment caused by collision or upset.
- Comprehensive: Coverage that pays for damage to your auto and its equipment not caused by collision or upset. This includes, but is not limited to damage from fire, theft, glass breakage, vandalism and damage that results from contact with persons, animals, birds or falling objects.
- Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage: Provides coverage when you are injured in an accident caused by another person who either has no auto insurance or who has lower insurance limits than you carry and which are insufficient to cover your damages. Some states require that this coverage also include property damage.
Additional Coverage — Auto Insurance Policy Endorsements
Sometimes you need a little extra assurance when insuring your car. An endorsement is simply a document used to amend your car insurance policy to better meet your individual needs. The following policy endorsements are available for an additional cost or premium:
- Road Service – This coverage reimburses you for reasonable towing and required labor costs at the site of breakdown when your car or vehicle is disabled. (Restrictions apply in North Carolina.)
- Death and disability benefits – This option provides additional death and/or disability benefits should an insured die or become disabled as a result of a car accident.
- Transportation expenses (comprehensive) – Transportation expenses, including the cost of a car rental, are covered should your auto become disabled from a comprehensive loss. Basic limits are included in your auto policy if you purchase comprehensive coverage for your car. Higher limits are available for an additional charge by adding this endorsement to your policy.
- Transportation expenses (collision) – If purchased, this endorsement provides optional transportation expenses, including the cost of a car rental, should your auto become disabled due to a collision loss.
